Born in St.
Petersburg, cellist and violin maker, Jebran
Yakoub first studied and worked in Damascus, Syria. As a
cellist he:
- Began collaboration with the National Syrian Symphonic Orchestra
in 1988;
- Served as a member of the National Syrian Symphonic Orchestra
from 1992 to 2000;
- Was a member of the Arab National Chamber Orchestra from 1992
to 2000;
- Was a member of the Damascus Opera Theater Orchestra from 1995
to 2000;
- Performed for the Ministry of Syrian Culture from 1995 to 2000;
- Performed solo, chamber and orchestral concerts in the United
States, France, Germany, Lebanon, Russia, Syria, Italy and Spain.
He currently works as a free lance musician in Italy;
- Performed in the West Eastern Divan Orchestra with Maestro Daniel
Barenboim from 1999 to 2004 in concerts with the Chicago Symphony
Orchestra, Staatsoper Berlin, Maestranza in Seville, Geneva, London
(Royal Albert Hall and Barbican Hall), Strasbourg, Ronda, and
Weimer (with the participation of YoYo Ma);
- Performed concerts in association with the Apple Hill Chamber
Players in 2001;
Mr. Yakoub began his career as a violin maker when he was 14 years
of age and has studied in Syria, Russia, France and Cremona, Italy.
His instruments are currently played in major Symphony Orchestras
including the Zagreb Radio/Television Orchestra, the Rotterdam Philharmonic
Orchestra and The Hague Symphony Orchestra. Soloists play his instruments in Germany,
Japan, Russia, Syria and the United States.
Mr. Yakoub is a member of Solidarte
(an important Milanese cultural association). Starting
in 2003, he began working as a manager for musicians and artists.
